The state Democratic Party has given liberal Justice Jill Karofsky's campaign more than $1.3 million. CNN —Tyre Nichols, the 29-year-old Black man who was violently beaten by Memphis police officers in January, died from blunt force trauma to the head and his death has been ruled a homicide, his autopsy results revealed Thursday. Nichols was repeatedly punched and kicked by five Memphis Police Department officers on January 7 following a traffic stop and brief foot chase. A toxicology report performed on Nichols detected the presence of chemicals associated with marijuana and alcohol use, the report says. CNN has contacted the Shelby County medical examiner to obtain a direct copy of Nichols’ autopsy report. The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office told CNN on Tuesday that it will not pursue criminal charges against Hemphill.

He's spent $53,000 on the airwaves so far, and has reserved $107,000 worth of additional ad time through April 4 -- Election Day -- per AdImpact, an ad tracking firm. She's reserved an additional $4 million worth of airtime through Election Day. Other outside allies have helped her effort too, and Everytown for Gun Safety just announced a $500,000 ad campaign that includes an ad attacking Kelly on gun rights and abortion.
The Department of Justice and FBI on Wednesday announced a civil rights inquiry into a traffic stop in Memphis, Tennessee, that preceded the death of a Black man. Tyre Nichols, 29, died three days after being taken to a hospital in critical condition following the Jan. 7 stop. Nichols' family has retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump and have demanded the public release of body camera and any other surveillance footage from the stop. Crump did not immediately respond to an NBC News request for comment regarding the civil rights investigation Wednesday. Blu's paternal grandmother, Karen Rolland, 57, told NBC News the boy would have been turning six last week. A man suspected in connection with the killing of hip-hop artist Young Dolph a year ago turned himself in to law enforcement Friday, police said. Memphis police earlier Friday had said Johnson was a suspect and was wanted for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and asked for the public's help locating him. Three other people have previously been arrested and charged in connection with the killing. Cornelius Smith, 32; Justin Johnson, 24; and Hernandez Govan, 43, have been charged with first-degree murder and other charges. He was in Memphis for his annual Thanksgiving giveaway and stopped by the bakery when he was shot, his lawyer said at the time of the killing.
